Our turnkey laminar flow Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Hood comes with a timed UVC irradiation lamp and laminar flow HEPA filtering for cleanliness, as well as a fluorescent lamp to keep important work illuminated. An air-velocity meter lets you monitor air flow to stay within specifications. Viewing panels are made of acrylic or static-dissipative PVC, keeping the system lightweight and economical. Finally, an optional damage-resistant stainless steel work surface won’t limit the use of sterilizing chemicals.

PCR Hood with HEPA Filter
Choose from acrylic, glass or static-dissipative PVC for the laminar flow hood material. Acrylic is strong, economical and has excellent clarity, but is easily damaged by alcohol. Half-inch tempered glass in a frameless design eliminates metal corners and optimizes visibility and cleaning. Static-dissipative PCV is also strong, but resists many damaging chemicals. The plastic panels are framed in powder-coated steel for durability and easy cleaning.

A convenient pipette shelf organizes small supplies for process tasks or UV sterilization; notches hold pipettes upright and the narrow shelf is sized for micro-well plates. It is light-weight and mobile to accommodate placement preferences. See ordering information below.

A full-length front access shield enhances laminar flow when closed, and gives users complete access to samples and equipment when open. It is held open, or safely closed during UV decontamination, with magnetic latches.

The fan/filter unit houses a HEPA filter, rated 99.99% efficient with 0.3 micron particles. Its internal baffle system and anodized aluminum diffuser panel ensures uniform face velocity. The low vibration level means minimal disruption of high-precision cloning procedures performed inside the hood.

The Terra Status Indicator Light is an easy way to quickly monitor operational status of the PCR Hood from near or far. The light glows continuously to show that the FFU is turned on, and flashes to indicate that the FFU is turned off.

Ultraviolet C (UVC) radiation is the germicidal range of the ultraviolet spectrum. UVC energy, with wavelengths in the 280 – 100 nm range, is removed from sunlight by the earth's atmosphere, so earth-bound microorganisms have not developed a natural defense against it and are highly susceptible to cellular damage—particularly, disruption of DNA sequencing—as a result of relatively low levels of UVC exposure.

WARNING: UVC exposure can lead to injury, including blindness!
Acrylic, PVC, and most glass provide an effective UVC shield, but sash openings on hoods can allow UVC exposure. Always wear protective gear, including goggles, face shield, and gloves, when operating a UVC lamp that is not completely shielded. Remember to engage the magnetic latches on hood sashes.
